Life as it is today

There are always lessons to be learned from the situation that exists in one's life today. I have been unemployed for over a year and because I worked for a church and they are exempt from taxes, they, therefore are exempt from paying unemployment. Unemployment at my age is an eye opener and there are so many things that I took for granted that I never will again. I see the world from a whole different perspective. Food stamps are available but they don't pay for things like toothpaste, deodorant. One has to figure out how to get gas for the car, pay the car insurance. A haircut is a luxury as is McDonald's. Healthcare is provided through the health department and I have been truly thankful for it especially this week after being so sick with a sinus infection. You are there for several hours waiting but I find it interesting to watch the people and listen...it's never boring and you meet some very different people. So I look for work each and every day and when I get back to work I will strive to provide some of the things that are not available to those with no money...McDonald gift certificates to the shelters for the families that have children, personal hygiene items to the local benevolence programs. I'm sure there are other ways to give back as well. I am counting my blessings every day.

Catch up time!

Wow! It's been a while since I blogged. Time flies when your having fun...ha! ha! Are we having fun yet? I'm not. I was laid off a year ago and haven't been able to find work since. I spend hours daily on the internet searching and putting in applications to no avail. It's discouraging and depressing. I have sold my jewelry (didn't have much to begin with) and now that money is gone. It's a real eye opener being unemployed and not eligible for unemployment because I worked for a church (they are exempt). People don't realize that. So $ for gas and personal hygiene items is non existent. I stay at home and watch my dvd's over and over. I venture out to the library once a week for books. Things we take for granted I am now seeing as luxury (McD's, soda, candy bar). There is an upside to this...I just haven't found it yet.
